Shaniqua Rose
Founder & CEO
Shaniqua “Shan” Rose was born into a family from the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia and raised in Brooklyn, New York. In 2000, her family relocated to Poinciana, Florida, where she graduated from Poinciana High School and then went on to receive her Associates Degree in General Studies from Valencia College. Shan continued her education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Supervision and Management from Polk State College and now holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration.
In 2013, Shan started working for the City of Orlando in the Economic Development Department for the Downtown Development Board (DDB) and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), where she endeavored on different projects, including a nighttime economy study which resulted in the creation of a nighttime downtown manager.
After serving two years with the DDB/CRA, Shan accepted a position in the city’s Permitting Office. Here, she participated in various division enhancements, including the conversion of paper construction plans to digital, the creation of online tools for individuals that visit the City of Orlando, and initiation of required meetings between contractors and staff to discuss plan review or inspection issues, to assist the applicant with swifter completion of permits and construction projects.
Shan has a passion to create positive changes; while at the City of Orlando, she assisted with researching programs to assist with homelessness in the region, revisions to the Appearance Review policy to reduce the lengthy process to renovate the exterior of buildings, such as paint color changes and additional building signage, and the creation of additional business incentives to assist and attract businesses. While passionate about her work, Shan's passion is for West Orlando, specifically the Parramore community. In Parramore, she has seen a community in need of healing in many ways - from poverty to mentoring, but more specifically an opportunity to be united in focus.
Shan realized the only way to make a true impact and have a better understanding of the Parramore community was to actually live within the community. In December 2018, she purchased a home, rolled up her sleeves, and began going out to the community to hear the concerns of the people. Shan attempted to alleviate some of the issues she received by completing online reports to the appropriate city departments, bringing concerns to the attention of the appropriate parties, and teaching residents about resources available to them.
On July 4, 2019, she started an organization called Change For the Community as an outlet to make positive changes in the community. She gathered youth within Parramore to do clean-ups in the most needed areas. After only four weeks, there was a litter decrease in the targeted areas. After witnessing this impact, she quickly explored other opportunities for change. Shan started mentoring with youth, providing opportunities to explore their community, learn history, and just have some good ole fun. She believes in collaboration of the community to find out how to meet the needs of the community.
As a single mother of a young boy growing up in West Orlando, Shan realizes the importance of quality community resources that create a safe space for everyone to live, work and play. She has joined several organizations and committees to be an active voice for positive change in her community, such as becoming the NAACP Youth Council Advisor, where she speaks with the youth to get an understanding on how to improve the community for their future. Shan seeks ways to improve the quality of life for everyone in West Orlando, including better air quality, cleanliness, training and job opportunities, and so much more.
